Glennon is Staying Put

A few years back, there was discussion of Mike Glennon being the future for the Bucs at the quarterback position as he was showing flashes of potential. However, the Bucs went on to draft FSU Qb Jameis Winston who has now become the face of the franchise and team leader. Since then Bucs fans and certain media have been wanting the team to trade Mike Glennon for some kind of value. It has not happened and rightfully so as Glennon is an average starting Qb at best. Glennon needs certain things in place for him to be successful especially a strong O-line as he is a statue back there in the pocket.

Unlike Jameis who can elevate the play around him, Glennon needs great talent around him to be successful. This is why teams are not going to overpay for him and is why the Bucs haven't got the value they are asking for. Plus Glennon is a solid backup Qb as he can be solid for a few games as a spot starter if necessary similar to Josh McCown. Another thing people don't realize about Glennon is he does a great job helping Jameis in preparation every week, just going over game tape and making sure Jameis is not missing anything. So with that being said I don't see Glennon going anywhere for the time being. He will either re-sign next off-season or get an opportunity elsewhere as a backup or potential starter if in the right situation.

Glennon Trade Report is False

The trade whirlwinds of Mike Glennon took another turn this past week as supposedly Bucs Gm Jason Licht was offered day 2 picks for the back up Qb before the draft began back in late april.
According to 247Sports insider Luke Rodgers, the Cowboys have a standing offer on the table for Glennon if the Buccaneers decide to trade him. Rodgers' source informed him that the Cowboys attempted to trade for Glennon on draft day with the Bucs looking into their 2016 third-round pick and 2017 third-round pick.
If Jason Licht who said after the draft he got no calls on Glennon, was really offered two thirds then Glennon would be a Dallas Cowboy already. Unfortunately, articles like this get put out there as they start conversations and generate traffic which this story has done but don't believe it for one second. Then also allegedly the Cardinals called and offered a second round pick for Glennon which was also turned down.
The Arizona Cardinals also recently attempted to land Glennon, per Rodgers. The NFC West team tried to sling a second-round pick for the quarterback before the start of the draft.
This is nonsense as Jason Licht and Arizona Cardinals Gm Steve Keim are close friends and if this was really offered then again Glennon would not be a Buc. The Bucs like Glennon as their backup Qb and want to keep him. Now with that being said if compensation like stated above was ever offered then the Bucs would gladly send him on his way.

Updated:Glennon on the Move?

Updated: According to Rick Stroud, Mike Glennon is unlikely to be traded during the draft this weekend. Bucs were hoping for a high third round pick, but it looks unlikely now.
One of the big questions for this draft is, "Will Mike Glennon be traded"? I say it should be explored and pushed hard by Bucs Gm Jason Licht to get a deal done. With Jameis Winston on the team, I don't see a need for Glennon and with him being in a contract year, the Bucs should try to get something for him. Bucs have had talks with the Jets about a possible trade, the Broncos are also believed to be interested in the 6'6 gunslinger.

Don't expect a trade tonight but keep an eye on the Qbs that go first round, and if either the Broncos or Jets don't get a Qb tonight, look for the Bucs to start receiving calls on Glennon. An extra third or fourth round pick would be super beneficial for the Bucs as Jason Licht could turn that into a impact starter for this team. Lets hope the Bucs can get it done this weekend.

Bucs Sign Dan LeFevour

Bucs have officially signed QB Dan LeFevour, former Central Michigan standout who has recently been in the Canadian Football league the past 4 years. LeFevour has a history with both head coach Dirk Koetter in 2011, when Koetter was offensive coordinator of the Jaguars and from 2007-2009 with QB coach Mike Bajakian as he was the offensive quality control coach for Central Michigan during LeFevour's tenure.

Its safe to say they have a good knowledge of the type of player and teammate LeFevour is and what he can bring to the team. LeFevour, even though an outstanding college QB hasn't proven anything in the NFL or the Canadian Football league for that matter but questions will rise of why the addition of another QB? Is Glennon on the move or are the Bucs just getting more bodies for camp? Everything is exciting now as the draft gets closer and closer.

Winston Knows Importance of Continuity

The quickest way to deter a young Quarterbacks growth is by changing coaches and playbooks left and right, no allowing for him to get comfortable. Jameis spoke to the media today about how he was down about the Lovie firing at first, via Rick Stroud of Tampa Tribune.
"I'm excited that Coach Koetter is here," Winston said. "I was kind of down in the dumps because I was like what quarterback has been successful after they've lost their offensive coordinator, quarterback coach and head coach in the same year? I was just like, 'We're going through the whole process again.' "
Jameis is knowledgeable enough to know the importance of consistency, the proper way to groom a young QB and which was the biggest reason we here at Real Bucs Talk wanted Koetter back as head coach of the Buccaneers. Learning multiple playbook's every year slows the learning curve of potentially good young QBs and the Bucs management noticed that. Jameis went on to say how Glennon made a good point that made him appreciate Koetter staying even more.
"Mike Glennon made me realize it even more when he said, 'Bro, this is the first time in my NFL career that I have the same offensive playbook,' " Winston said. ''And I said that's important, from a chemistry standpoint, from a learning standpoint, so we can build off last year."
Think about the ability to master your craft and fix the mistakes you made from the year before from the same offense, instead of having to learn a whole new offense and create a bunch of other mistakes that you didn't know you could make. Keeping Koetter was the right decision and it speaks volumes when players like Winston and Glennon make it known. The franchise is centered around helping Winston succeed and they are making all the right decisions.

Updated:Rams Could Be Potential Trade Partner

Update: Titans and Rams have agree to a trade for the number one pick. Bucs Gm Jason Licht knows Titans Gm Jon Robinson, so perhaps the Bucs could get some of those extra picks from the Titans in a trade down.
There has been a lot of trade chatter lately surrounding Bucs backup Qb Mike Glennon, as he could be on the move as early as draft day. So far the rumored teams have been the Jets and Broncos as both really need a Qb, and Glennon would be a great fit for both teams. The Bucs and Jets have had discussions about a trade involving Glennon last month, maybe those talks restart again.
If Bucs Gm Jason Licht can get a third round pick or higher from the Jets for Glennon then great, but I feel he needs to make a call to the west coast to Rams Gm Les Snead. The Rams Qb situation is a mess as they are planning to roll with Case Keenum as their starter for the 2016 season. Rams have the 15th overall pick in the upcoming draft, as well as two second round picks. If the right player is not there for the Bucs at 9th overall, then they should try to trade down and the Rams look like the perfect partner.

Jason Licht should offer the 9th overall pick and Qb Mike Glennon for the Rams 15th,45th and their 4th round(107) selections. That is reasonable trade for both sides as the Rams get a starting Qb in Mike Glennon who has upside, plus get a top ten pick in the 2016 draft. Glennon would be a good fit for the Rams offense as he would have a good defense on his side, plus a great running back in Todd Gurly. As for the Bucs they receive more versatility in the draft and can add more impact players on defense with the extra picks. Not saying this will happen, but it is something the Bucs and Rams should consider come draft night as its only three weeks away.

Mike Glennon Chatter

Mike Glennon is still a Buccaneer as of now but the smoke is still in the air with possible trading destination for his services. NFLtraderumors.co had a nice piece about Glennon and what rumors are swirling around.
Adam Schein of NFL.com spoke to one GM who said that Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon would be a “perfect fit” for the Jets.Glennon is the perfect fit for the Jets,” the GM told Schein. “Good arm. Good fit in [Chan] Gailey’s offense. Younger and better than [Ryan] Fitzpatrick.”
Another GM went as far to say that he’d take Glennon over Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill right now.“If you gave me a choice of Ryan Tannehill or Mike Glennon, give me Mike Glennon,” said the GM. “He’s smart. He has a great reputation as a worker. He’s a middle-of-the-pack starter in the NFL.”
The GM also added that he believes Glennon is worth a second-round pick.
Schein takes a look at six speculative landing spots for Glennon in a potential trade including: the Rams, Jets, Broncos, Cowboys, 49ers, and Bills.
Glennon is a popular name right now just like every back up quarterback is until they actually begin to start and show what they really are. Jason Licht has a big decision ahead of him with Glennon. Although Licht survived the Lovie Smith firing he still is on the bubble with every decision he makes, as the Bucs have yet to have a winning season since 2010 and we all know the Glazers don't have much patience. The NFL truly stands for Not For Long and in my opinion Licht has to get as much as he can for Glennon while he is a hot commodity.

If Licht could get a pick in any of the first 3 rounds for Glennon I believe he should pull the trigger. Licht wants starters in this draft and Glennon right now is our back up QB with no chance of taking over. Get what you can Licht and for those concerned with our backup QB position, don't count out Ryan Griffin whom the Bucs claimed off waivers from the Saints last year.

Glennon for Wilkerson?

The search for trading partners for Mike Glennon is under way as QB needed teams are hunting for options to head their football teams. An interesting scenario was brought up by nydailynews.com that caught my eye.
The Jets still want to retain Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they’re considering alternate options if the veteran doesn’t return. The team has done their due diligence on available signal callers, including the Bucs’ backup. Tampa Bay head coach Dirk Koetter all but admitted that Glennon, who won’t see the light of day for the Bucs unless Jameis Winston gets injured, can be had in a trade.
The feeling around the league is that the Bucs don’t have to get a first-round pick in return for Glennon, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Would the Jets be willing to dole out a second-rounder for Glennon? A third-rounder is a no-brainer for a player, who can start right away and have a chance to be your long-term answer at quarterback.
Could the Jets dodge giving up any premium draft picks if they dangle Wilkerson? The biggest stumbling block, of course, would be Tampa’s willingness to pay Wilkerson the $40+ million in guarantees that he desires in a long-term deal. Remember, the Bucs gave defensive tackle Gerald McCoy a 7-year, $95.2 million extension two years ago. Upon first glance, it seems that ponying up big-time loot for another defensive lineman would be unlikely.
To me scoring a player like Muhammad Wilkerson would be a steal for the Bucs. Just because Wilkerson would most likely play DT in the Bucs defense isn't a negative and I bet the Bucs feel the same and would pay the price for him.

Mike Smith knows how to deal with 2 pro bowl DT's as he did with Marcus Stroud and John Henderson during his tenure with the Jaguars from 2003-2007. Wilkerson stands 6'4 315 lbs and has the quickness of a DE. He and Gerald McCoy are very similar and would the best DT tandem in the league immediately. Those that think the Bucs need edge rushers over Wilkerson are not looking at the whole picture. Adding Wilkerson would improve everyone on the line as all the attention will be drawn to the middle and any defensive end will be facing one on one's all game. Jacquies Smith would become that 10+ sack man he has the potential to be.

Wilkerson would be a perfect fit for Mike Smith who also wants to throw in multiple fronts of 4-3 and 3-4. The fit in my opinion is perfect but its hard to get a man that has 36.5 sacks and 21 pass deflections in 5 years without some luck. If Licht can pull off a trade of Glennon and some picks below 2nd round for Wilkerson you take it and run. These are all rumors and are pure imaginative thinking, but how fun a defense that would be to watch.

Is Ryan Griffin Ready To Be The Backup Qb?

With the trade rumors swirling around Qb Mike Glennon, the Bucs would need his replacement if they decided to trade him before the upcoming season. Enter third year Qb Ryan Griffin, whom the Bucs picked up off waivers last year and was on the 53 man roster throughout the 2015 season. Head coach Dirk Koetter talked about Griffin today at the Owner's meetings, and feels Griffin has a chance to be a rising player per Scott Smith.
Koetter went on to say Griffin has worked really hard with quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian, and possesses a strong arm to go with a very high football IQ. Koetter likes the touch Griffin has on his throws and that he asks a lot of questions per Rick Stroud.
He spent a lot of time with Mike (Bajakian). He really throws the ball well. He's got nice touch, we call it ‘turn the ball over.‘ He turns the ball over nice. We're always looking for guys who can ‘turn it over,' is how we say it. He works at it every bay. We're in our game plan meetings and this guy is asking as many questions as Jameis. Sometimes I have to say, "Griff, relax a second.' But we have a limited amount of film to look at in the preseason (with the Saints) but we like what he did."
It feels like Mike Glennon is going to be moved before the draft or on draft day, and it looks like the Bucs have his replacement already in place.

A Trade In The Works?

Bucs Gm Jason Licht has said multiple times this offseason that he doesn't want to trade backup Qb Mike Glennon, but could his mind on the matter be changing. The Bucs have discussed possible Glennon trade with the New York Jets but it looks like talks have cooled for the moment per NFL Update.
It looks like the Bucs want a first round pick but would accept a high third round pick if offered for Glennon per Luke Easterling and Matt Miller of Bleacherreport.

Translation is Bucs wont hesitate trading Glennon if the price is right, and with them talking with teams already it shows that a trade might be on the way sooner rather than later. Another interesting nugget I came across via walterfootball.com is that the Bucs ran a workout with Arkansas Qb Brandon Allen, and had Qb coach Mike Bajakian at Penn State's pro day which featured Qb Christian Hackenberg. It might be just due dilligence, but it is interesting that the Bucs are working out Qbs as Mike Glennon trade rumors continue to float around. I say if the Bucs can get third round pick or higher, take that deal and don't look back.

Will the Bucs Trade Mike Glennon?

One of the hot topics over the past year and half with Bucs fans has been whether the Bucs will trade Mike Glennon. Glennon 26, drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft, has been average for the most part, even though he has put up decent numbers in his first three years.  He has totaled 4,025 yards passing to go with 29 tds and 15 ints creating a 83.7 QB rating. However, he has only won 5 games as a starter assembling to a 5-13 record granted the team around him was average to say the least.

Before the 2014 draft, The Bucs had serious interest from other teams calling about Mike Glennon and might have been able to get a third round pick in exchange for him.  After the draft, Jason Licht basically said he likes Glennon here with the Bucs and even though there were discussions, nothing substantial to make a move at that time.

Now fast forward to the present where Licht is still saying the same thing about Glennon, where he is just too valuable to this team as a backup QB.
"Mike Glennon is just so valuable to us right now while we have him, while he’s under contract, I feel like we have two starting quarterbacks with him and Jameis,” Licht said. “If you just go out and get a mid-round pick for him, the chances of the mid-round pick working out or drafting a quarterback and that pick working out, the odds aren’t in your favor. Unless there’s [an offer] that blows us away, I think you lean towards keeping him and having him on your roster.”
I agree with this statement from Jason Licht as the Bucs shouldn't trade Glennon unless they are getting a 2nd round pick or higher because if Jameis goes down due to injury the season would be over with no capable backup. So relax Glennon lovers, he is going nowhere this offseason.
