Pass Rush is Just Not There

A good pass rush is essential to playing good defense in this league unless you have an outstanding secondary which the Bucs do not. The Bucs pass rush has struggled as the front four has lost several key defenders to injury. Hopefully Robert Ayers can return for the next game because the Bucs really miss his presence. Gerald McCoy has been dominating but is getting no help from his other line mates which is allowing teams to triple team McCoy. Rookie Noah Spence is just not there yet as his speed rush is just getting pushed past the Qb. William Gholston is a monster vs the run, but struggles to beat his man when it's a pass play. Have not seen anything from Clinton Mcdonald which is not like him as he is usually a good pass rusher.

One positive from yesterday was the rush from Howard Jones who effected some plays and even got a hit on the quaterback. Something has to change though as there has to be a pass rush for this defense to succeed or it's going to struggle to keep teams from scoring 30 points a game. The secondary is just too inconsistent right now to be counted on to just shut down opposing pass offenses without a pass rush. The Bucs need to get creative whether that is through rush games, stunts, or even more blitzing it needs to be better.
